Wonderfest 2010 Show Report
(Page Three: Sci Fi U')
After leaving the Kitbuilders’ U room, I located and entered the Sci-Fi U’ room. This Pre-Wonderfest program is sponsored by Steve (CultTVMan) along with Tracy (Federation Models).
In the past, clinics were held which pertained to different aspects of modeling. There were a number of different tables set up with an expert discussing one of the aspects of modeling at each table.
For this year, though, Tracy and Steve decided to make the program more “hands-on” oriented. Those participating were asked to bring with them one of their under-construction models, which they were able to actually work on during the program.
I was able to pick Steve’s brain about this program. He informed me that there were two groups set up this year. One pertained to building models, and the second pertained to painting models.
There were 24 who participated in the program this year, and the fee was $30 to join up.
The feedback which they received back from the participants was very positive. According to Steve, "people liked the change this year." (Steve and Tracy tend to get a lot of repeat customers each year, who always seem to like the Sci Fi U programs which are set up).
Concerning whether or not this new program format will be repeated next year, Steve mentioned that it’s too early to tell. A lot of what CultTVMan and Federation Models do next year will depend on who can be lined up for instructors, along with what new ideas they may have.
Tracy and Steve are always looking to bring new ways of doing things, along with new ways of thinking to Sci Fi U, in order to keep things fresh.
I hung around until around 5 pm, when the program ended. Then, I ended up tagging along with Terry Miesle, following him up to his room, to get a peek at some of the models he brought with him for the contest.
