Wonderfest 2007 Show Report
(Page Two - Wonderfest University)
(Friday, May 25th @ 1:00 pm – Kitbuilder & Badger “Wonderfest University” sponsored events)
A very late wake-up followed by putzing around looking at the boob-tube found me FINALLY getting my butt in gear, venturing down to check out the Pre-show festivities in the early afternoon hours.
Initially, I was not in a terrible rush to travel downstairs, since I was not attending any of the Federation Models and CultTVMan sponsored Sci Fi University (model building) classes that were taking place.
I had managed, (thankfully), to snatch a last-minute slot with one of the established Iron Modeler groups that had formed. (I’ll expand on this a bit later).
I gave one of the guys from the group – (Andy) – a call on his cell phone and made arrangements to meet up with him down at the pool area. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) on my way down I stumbled upon figure painting and sculpting classes that were taking place, (so I never made it down to the pool).
The classes being held were sponsored by Kitbuilders and Badgers, and were coined “Wonderfest University” (WU). They had begun at 8 am, and, at 1 pm, were still going strong.
There were a total of three classes taking place: Beginner Painting, Advanced Painting, and Sculpting.
For the beginner class, 28 participated. The instructors were Dan “Danno” Cope of Kitbuilders Magazine and Rick Cantu of Amazing Figure Modeler, with assistant instructors Tom Bonaldi and Saul Alvarez of Kitbuilders helping out.
For the advanced class, 16 students participated. The instructors for this class were once again Dan “Danno” Cope and Rick Cantu, with assistant instructor Joe Dunaway helping out.
For the sculpting class, 7 students participated, with instructors Gabe Perna and Wayne Hansen, along with assistant instructor Mark Van Tine.
I floated around, running into a number of guys I knew, including Ron and Mark, Saul, Wayne and John Diaz.
After taking in the sites, taking numerous pictures and talking with folks there I decided to head down to the hotel’s restaurant, to grab a quick bite to eat. (I hadn’t eaten all day, and my stomach was reminding me of this fact).
After a quick salad dinner, I decided to head over to the pool area, (where the Iron Modeler Building Event would be taking place). 4:30 was quickly approaching, (which was the designated beginning time for the Iron Modeler Event).
