Wonderfest 2006 Show Report
(Page Two: The Vendors)

My first destination once 11 am rolled around was the vendor’s room. (I had four years worth of model puchases to make up for.)

I initially stumbled upon one of my Grail kits – A 1/6th scale Gambit figure (from the X-Men) titled “Ragin’ Cajun.” Its discounted price of $35.00 was an extra incentive to snatch it up – (although I really didn’t need an extra incentive.)

Directly afterwards I made my way over to the Starshipmodeler (SM) tables. I had been eyeballing a number of items that were for sale at their site prior to the show. It appeared that I would have an opportunity to purchase them and save on the shipping fee.

I ultimately ended up spending more money at John’s and Linda’s tables than at any others. All told, I purchased:

A 1/72nd scale Fine Molds “Slave One” kit.
(3) 1/24th scale Bug ‘Bot (Buzz Droids.)
(4) Hasegawa Flexible Stands.
A Starfury (SF) Custom Decal Sheet.
A(nother) Starfury Missile Set, (to go along with the 4 or 5 that I already had.)
A(nother) set of Starfury Plasma Cannons, (also to go along with sets that I already owned.)
A Tamiya oil-pastel weathering set.
(2) 4” Nicely engraved Babylon-5 circular resin bases.
(2) 5” Nicely engraved Gundam circular resin bases.
(1) 5” nicely engraved Zeon circular resin base.
A resin Firefly Class Spacecraft (from the Firefly Sci-fi TV Series.)
..and last, but not least, a LARGE 1/72nd scale Atmospheric Booster conversion set for the VF-1 Valkyrie (Robotech) fighter.

Part of the delima I ran into while loitering at the SM tables was the very inexpensive fees many of the items were going for. The 4-inch bases were only $10.00 each with the 5-inchers running $15.00 each. The Tamiya oil pastels were $10.00. The SF guns, missile sets and decal sheet were only a paltry $6.00 each. (With prices this low, I could afford to make multiple purchaes here – or, at least that was the logic I worked around in my head while figuring out what I was going to buy.)

With the Bug Bots, they would come in handy for a Jedi-Starfighter diorama that I was working on.

With respect to the Firefly, I had just gotten hooked on this spacecraft with the recent Serenity Movie that was out last year along with the DVD-TV Show set I had received as a gift over the Christmas Holiday.

And as far as the Valkyrie booster set, I had been eye-balling this conversion set every other week at the SM website since a review had been posted there. (So, naturally this was also a “must-get” purchase!)

Although I dropped a load at the SM table, I ultimately left with a BIG SMILE on my face (...and this, afterall is what its all about, isn’t it?)
