Wonderfest
2002
(Page Two)
The Vendors Room (cont.) and Saturday's Seminars
Ed Bowkley and his wife Sue were also in attendance,
selling a variety of kits from Diceman Creations, along with copies of the Model
Maniacs Magazines.
In addition, I ran into Steve Iverson and Lisa Greco. (It
was real nice finally getting a chance to meet Lisa, after conversing with her
over the Internet for a couple of years!)
Jimmy Flintstone was on hand, with a whole lot of resins
kits and accessories that were greatly reduced in price. What particularly
caught my eye was a nicely built up resin Batmobile.
Several new guys I met were Marc Tassone and Shane Foulkes.
They were selling some really good-looking dinosaur kits. In addition, Marc had
a large, extremely detailed sculpt of a giant reptilian lizard that was a cross
between Godzilla and Gorgosaurus - (He calls it Gogirhaganthous).
George and Geometrics were also at the show. This was their
last Wonderfest Show that they were doing, and they were blowing out bagged
vinyl Star Trek figure kits for $10 - $20 each. Included were Gowron the
Klingon, a Romulan (from TNG series), along with Riker and Geordi. In addition
Talos and Cyclops (from the Seventh Voyage of Sinbad) were on sale as well, for
somewhere between $10 - $20. I ended up picking up a Gowron and Romulan figure
kit.
There were a bunch of other vendors on hand as well,
selling a variety of items.
Thankfully, I behaved myself this year and curtailed my
purchases back a bit.
After making the rounds around the room my "better half"
paged me from the entrance. She had evidently (finally) awoken and was down to
claim her Claire. I passed our daughter off and they went off two round up
Anthony and Michael and get a bite to eat. I, on the other hand decided to head
over to check out some of the modeling seminars that were taking place.
The Seminars
As you can tell from the information listed above, there
were a lot of seminars scheduled to be conducted. The topics were interesting as
well as varied.
By the time I made it over I had already missed a couple of
them. I arrived just in time to attend Larry Johnson's seminar on Washes and
Drybrushing. I really liked the small pieces of red "plastic brick",
paintbrushes, acrylic paints and thinner that he passed out, which allowed us to
apply the washes and do the drybrushing on our own while Larry talked about the
process.

Next in line was Jay Chladek with his seminar on Making your
Own Decals.

Following this Erin Lantz and Mark Yungblut talked about the
multiple uses of both Aves Apoxie and A&B Epoxy Putties.

Finally, John Lester spoke about Model Contests and
Judging.

Directly after John finished his seminar my wife and kids
returned, to kidnap me away from my Wonderfest haven that I was in. Since they
said it would "only be for a moment," I decided to go with them.
They were excited about some of the kool, collectable items
that they had run into across the street at the Flea Market that was taking
place - Items like Old Star Wars toys, vintage GI Joes figures and Comic
Books,…(like I really needed something else to spend my money on?)
Anyway, I decided to go along with them "just for a bit" to
check things out…
…Three hours later I was finally returning to the show.
Unfortunately, it had been over for an hour!!! (Awhhh
mann!!!)
Oh well, there would be Sunday to (finally) get a chance to
check out the models.
