(Saturday's Wonderfest Show - The Vendors' Room, Page
One)
Saturday morning found me awakening a bit late. The old body
was still trying to recoup from that marathon driving session we went through
the previous two days.
I headed down to the mini-van, retrieved my models and
registered them in. While doing so, I got a chance to check out the entries that
had already been entered. MANNNN, they looked really good!
The contest was broken down into five different
sub-categories: figures, dioramas, spacecraft and vehicles, dinosaurs and an
adult section.
The Figures were Fantastic! The Dioramas were
Dynamite! The Spacecraft (and Vehicles) were Spectacular! And, the Dinosaurs were Dynamically Devastating! (Sorry about that). All entries were really
something to behold.
After entering my models I headed over to the Vendor's Room.
Clara and the kids had decided to head over to Great Adventure for the day.
This freed me up for the entire day.
There were slews of guests speaking upstairs in two
different theater rooms. Also, there were numerous How-to Demos being conducted
down the hallway in the Lizard Lounge. To top things off, there were "How-to"
(Make-it-take-it) workshops being conducted (both days) for children attending
the show.
The How-to Demos ranged from the basic "Building Figures"
and (Model) "Construction 101," to the advanced "Figure Sculpting 101," "Scratch
building," Super Detailing" and "Lighting Basics." There was something for
everyone at this show.
Even though I had intended to check out as many of the
seminars and speeches as I could, I ended up spending so much time in the
Vending room that I only attended the end of several.
Once I arrived at the vending room I headed over to the
Polar Lights table and checked out what they had on display.
Next, I ran into the Diceman, (Ed
Bowkley of Diceman Creations). He had a table and was selling a multitude of
resin figures, along with copies of the Model Maniacs Magazine.
Steve Iverson had a table as well, (with Ziz and Anthony
Taylor assisting). They had copies of the Jupiter-2 Book on hand, along with
after market detail sets for the J-2, a brand-spanking new Aurora-like resin
model and a number of miscellaneous videos and plastic model kits.
I ran into the folks from MonstersinMotion. Most notably
among their products being displayed were a Mad Max V-8 Interceptor Car Model
kit, an in-progress, almost completed 16 inch Moonbus (with a removable top),
and a HUMUNGOUS Japanese Mecha-battle tank, (that was going for the paltry sum
of $600.00!)
