Model Kit Review: Building a Better Revell Monogram Babylon 5 SA-23E Mitchell-Hyundyne
Starfury
(Page Three)
STEP SEVEN: Completed Starfuries
and Detailed Painted Stands
After glossing, decaling, and
weathering Sinclair’s Line Fighter, all pre-painted parts (the engine thrusters,
vanes, cockpit tub and canopy) were attached to both Starfuries. Required paint
touch-ups were then done. To give the Starfuries an “individual” touch, a small
star and a “02” template were created. Both were also printed from a computer,
onto labels. Then, their outlines were cut out with a small pair of scissors
and placed onto the front of the stands. Dark Red was airbrushed over the star
template. For the “02,” I initially painted the front part of this stand Flat
White. When dry, the “02” label was attached and Flat Black then airbrushed on.
Both space fighters were now complete. (See Final Figures):

STEP EIGHT: Additional Gun
Detailing
Even though I skipped it, there
was a final step that could have been done. The two sets of “tubes” protruding
from the middle rear of the spacecraft are actually rear guns. Just like the
front ones, their four gun barrels should be drilled out.
SUMMARY:
In closing, all of the preceding
steps are very simple and straightforward to do. Most involve only additional
painting not specified in the instructions, with the rest involving minor
enhancements to the guns.
With just a little extra work and a
bit of patience, Revell Monogram’s SA-23E Mitchell-Hyundyne Starfury can be
built into a very good looking and accurate space fighter.
